Undefeated heavyweight contender, Moldovan grappler, Alexander Romanov is set for an Octagon return at UFC 278 on August 20. in his most high-profile promotional outing to date – drawing Polish contender, Marcin Tybura. The pay-per-view event is scheduled to take place at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Alexander Romanov has enjoyed a blistering undefeated run so far in his UFC stint
Undefeated in his first five Octagon walks, Alexander Romanov made incredibly short work of short-notice replacement, Chase Sherman back in April – landing a first round keylock submission victory as he closed as a gargantuan betting favorite.
As for Tybura, the former M-1 Global heavyweight champion slipped to #10 in the heavyweight rankings back in October of last year in Abu Dhabi, UAE – suffering a unanimous decision loss on ‘Fight Island’ against Russian striker, Alexander Volkov. The UFC confirmed the pairing of Alexander Romanov and Marcin Tybura in an official press release this Monday afternoon.
16-0 as a professional, Romanov, who boasts six career knockouts to go with a further nine submission wins, landed in the Octagon just two years ago against Roque Martinez.
Making short work of Martinez on that occasion, Romanov would then stop Marcos Rogerio de Lima with a submission success, before claiming a split technical decision win over Juan Espino after an unintentional groin strike left him unable to continue.
Prior to his submission win against Sherman, Romanov stopped Jared Vanderaa with a second round knockout in October of last year at the UFC Apex facility.
22-7 as a professional, Tybura had enjoyed a blistering run of five straight victories en route to his ‘Fight Island’ matchup and eventual defeat against Volkov.
As part of that eye-catching run which saw Tybura crack the division top-10, the Uniejow native defeated Sergey Spivak, Maxim Grishin, Ben Rothwell, Greg Hardy, and in his most recent professional win, stopped Walt Harris with strikes.
UFC 278 takes place on August 20. from the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah – with an undisputed welterweight title rematch between reigning champion, Kamaru Usman, and Leon Edwards set to take headlining honors.
Another high-profile matchup including streaking bantamweight contenders, former featherweight best, Jose Aldo, and Georgian wrestling standout, Merab Dvalishvili has also been inked for the promotion’s August event.
