    An intriguing bantamweight battle is currently being worked on for the UFC 278 pay-per-view card on August 20. in Salt Lake City, Utah – with reporter, Ariel Helwani reporting how the organization are currently “working” on booking former featherweight champion, Jose Aldo against surging Georgian standout, Merab Dvalishvili.

    As per an initial report by Helwani on his official Instagram account, the UFC are currently “working” on what would come as a potential bantamweight title-eliminator between Jose Aldo and Merab Dvalishvili for UFC 278 on August 20. from the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City.

    “UFC is working on Jose Aldo vs. Merab Dvalishvili for UFC 278 on Aug. 20.,” Helwani posted on his official Instagram account. “Not a done deal at the moment, but that’s the current direction.”

    The current #3 ranked contender at bantamweight, Aldo, who has won his last three consecutively, has been out of action since a stellar striking performance against Rob Font at UFC Vegas 44 last December, landing a main event unanimous decision triumph.

    The former featherweight champion added Massachusetts native, Font to a prior run of impressive triumphs against both Pedro Munhoz, and the now-streaking Ecuadorian striker, Marlon Vera.

    As for Dvalishvili, the surging Serra-Longo Fight Team mainstay has enjoyed a remarkable seven-fight winning run as a of late, earning the #6 rank at bantamweight.
