Report – Alexa Grasso vs. Viviane Araujo Added To UFC on ESPN+ 70 Card On August 16.

    A flyweight division matchup between the #5 ranked contender, Alexa Grasso, and the #7 rated challenger, Viviane Araujo has been booked for a UFC on ESPN+ 70 event on August 15. At the time of publication, an official location or venue for the card has yet to be determined by the organization.

    Undefeated since her debut at the flyweight limit, Guadalajara native, Alexa Grasso, featured on the main card of UFC Fight Night Columbus back in March, submitting Joanne Wood with an impressive opening round rear-naked choke win. 

    Improving to 11-3 last time out, Araujo managed to defeat Andrea Lee with a unanimous decision triumph at UFC Vegas 54 last month. The victory came as Araujo’s fifth under the UFC banner. MMA Junkie reporter, Farah Hannoun was first to report the news of Grasso’s return against Araujo.

    14-3 as a professional, Lobo Gym staple, Alexa Grasso landed at 125lbs back in Augusty 2020 at the UFC Apex facility, defeating Ji Yeon Kim with a unanimous decision success.

    In between her finish over the aforementioned Wood and the above noted, Kim, Grasso defeated fellow prospect, Maycee Barber over the course of three rounds at UFC 258 back in February of last year.

    In promotional losses, Grasso suffered defeats to current strawweight champion, Carla Esparza, as well as the undefeated, Tatiana Suarez, and the returning, Felice Herrig. 

    An alum of the Shannon Knapp-led Invicta FC banner, Grasso has also previously defeated notable names including Karina Rodriguez, Ashley Cummins, Mizuki Inoue, Jodie Esquibel, Randa Markos, and one-time title challenger, Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

    A native of Ceilandia, Araujo initially landed in the Octagon at the bantamweight limit with a knockout win over Talita Bernardo, before moving to flyweight and besting Alexis Davis.

    A former Pancrase strawweight champion, beyond losses to former title challengers, Jessica Eye, and Katlyn Chookagian, Araujo has defeated Montana De La Rosa, as well as the now-retired, Roxanne Modafferi before her May judging win against Lee.
