Former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor appears to have caught wind of recent comments made by the surging, #6 ranked lightweight contender, Beneil Dariush – with the Dubliner labelling the Kings MMA staple as the “biggest nobody” current on the promotion’s books.
Conor McGregor, who currently sits at #8 in the official lightweight stack, has been out of action since July of last year where he headlined UFC 264 against former interim titleholder, Dustin Poirier – fracturing his left tibia in an opening round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss in the pair’s rubber match trilogy.
As for Dariush, the Iran-born contender recently suffered a catastrophic leg injury of his own ahead of a slated February return – fracturing his fibula during camp ahead of a UFC Vegas 49 main event slot against Islam Makhachev.
Sharing his thoughts on the current outlook of the UFC lightweight division amid the recent stripping of former undisputed gold holder, Charles Oliveira, Dariush took umbrage with the Sao Paulo technician’s calls for a fight with McGregor next – claiming he was avoiding legitimate competition at 155lbs.
“He’s (Charles Oliveira) talking about wanting to fight Conor (McGregor), and he talks about how these guys never gave him a shot when he was outside the top five, blah, blah, blah,” Beneil Dariush told MMA Fighting. “… He was supposed to fight me, bailed, ran and fought Tony Ferguson. Now, instead of fighting actual contenders, he wants to go fight Conor? He wants to go fight Nate Diaz? This is hypocritical. This is the only thing that’s bothering me.”
Conor McGregor fires back at lightweight counterpart, Beneil Dariush
Drawing the attention of the 33-year-old outspoken Dubliner, McGregor, Dariush was the subject of a tweet from the former duel-weight champion – who labelled him the most irrelevant fighter in the UFC at the moment.
“Beneil Dardush (sic) (Beneil Dariush) is the biggest nobody in the company (UFC) (laughing face emoji),” Conor McGregor tweeted.

Landing his seventh consecutively victory in May of last year, Dariush turned in a one-sided unanimous decision win over former interim titleholder, Tony Ferguson at UFC 262.
