Despite a matchup between the two failing to materialize on a staggering five separate occasions, former undisputed UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov appears to welcome the opportunity to serve as an opposing coach on The Ultimate Fighter against former interim gold holder, Tony Ferguson.
Khabib, who was booked to fight Ferguson on five separate occasions during their respective stints at the top of the lightweight division, retired from professional mixed martial arts back in October 2020 following his successful title unification win against Justin Gaethje.
The Dagestan native ended his career boasting a 29-0 professional record, including notable career wins against Rafael dos Anjos, Edson Barboza, Conor McGregor, and Dustin Poirier.
For Ferguson, on the other hand, the Oxnard fan favorite slumped to his fourth consecutive defeat at UFC 274 earlier this month in Phoenix, Arizona – dropping a brutal second round front kick knockout loss to Michael Chandler.
Before his current skid of form, Ferguson had tied Khabib for the most consecutive victories at the lightweight limit – landing 12 straight triumphs, however, the two next once shared the Octagon despite five attempted pairings.
Off the back of his loss against Chandler, Ferguson noted his interest in potentially serving as a coach on a season of The Ultimate Fighter – which he won back in 2011, suggesting an opposing battle against coach, Khabib.
Khabib Nurmagomedov appears willing to entertain an offer to coach, at least
Welcoming a potential offer to coach a season of TUF against Ferguson – Khabib urged the Californian to field an offer from his representatives.
“Tony (Ferguson) I like the idea about TUF, call your bosses and let them make an offer, but if they don’t have ideas, I myself will offer you a deal on the @EagleFightClub platform, we doing some business here you know,” Khabib Nurmagomedov tweeted.
Drawing a reply from Ferguson, the former interim titleholder accused Khabib of running from him continuously.
“We’re private contractors fathead remember?” Tony Ferguson tweeted. “We can smell ya from all the way over here. Lay of (sic) the sweets meat head. Now you work for me. BTW you still owe me 200k and 20 push-ups for the homeless. Keep runnin’ it’s tiramisu tuesday – champ -csos- ‘Merica MF.”
