A light heavyweight main event blockbuster between one-time title challenger, Thiago Santos, and the streaking #10 ranked contender, Jamahal Hill is slated to headline a UFC on ESPN+ 70 event on August 6. – with the promotion yet to officially determine a location or venue for the event.
Thiago Santos, who will make his seventh headlining feature under the organization’s banner, recently suffering a one-sided unanimous decision loss to surging Dagestan striker, Magomed Ankalaev in the main event of UFC Vegas 50 back in March.
Making his premier run in a main event bracket last time out, Hill managed to stop fellow short-notice headlining feature, Brazilian common-foe, Johnny Walker with a first round knockout win in the main event of UFC Vegas 48 in February. The victory earned Hill a post-fight Performance of the Night bonus. MMA Junkie reporters, Nolan King, and Mike Bohn were first to report Santos’ outing against Hill in August.
Faltering to 22-10 as a professional with his March loss to Ankalaev, Thiago Santos, a trainee at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida – had recently snapped a run of three straight defeats at the light heavyweight limit with a forgettable unanimous judging win over Walker in October.

Once challenging for undisputed light heavyweight gold, Santos, a native of Rio de Janeiro, had suffered a close, contentious, split decision loss to former kingpin, Jon Jones – before a series of catastrophic knee and leg injuries suffered in the fight sidelined him.
Santos would return with a stoppage loss to current champion, Glover Teixeira, and then lost a decision against Aleksandar Rakic prior to his win against Walker.
10-1-(1) as a professional, Hill, a product of Dana White’s Contender Series – saw his perfect professional run halted back in June at UFC 263, dropping a first round knockout loss to Paul Craig during a grappling scramble.
Rebounding with a pair of devastating first round knockouts since, Hill, a native of Chicago, Illinois – bested both Jimmy Crute and the aforenoted, Walker with opening frame barrages. Hill also holds a win over upcoming UFC 274 feature and one-time interim light heavyweight title challenger, Ovince Saint Preux.
