A bantamweight matchup between the surging #13 ranked contender, Sean O’Malley, and the veteran #10 ranked challenger, Pedro Munhoz is currently in the works to land at UFC 276 on July 2. – from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Undefeated in his last three consecutive outings, O’Malley most recently defeated Munhoz’s compatriot, Raulian Paiva in a main card pairing back in December at UFC 269. The victory came as O’Malley’s third consecutively.

Munhoz, a native of Sao Paulo, also featured on that December UFC 269 card akin to Sean O’Malley – suffering a rather one-sided unanimous decision loss to former two-time bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz. The defeat came as Munhoz’s second on the trot. ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto was first to report the news of O’Malley’s return against Munhoz.
“They wanted to see him fight Top 10,” Okamoto tweeted. “Here’s Top 10. UFC is finalizing Sean O’Malley vs. Pedro Munhoz for July 2, per sources.”
Before his victory against Paiva, O’Malley, a product of Dana White’s Contender Series – defeated Kris Moutinho, as well as now-promotional alum, Thomas Almeida.
In his sole professional loss, Montana native, O’Malley suffered a first round knockout loss to recent UFC Vegas 53 main event feature, the new #5 ranked contender, Marlon Vera in the co-main event of UFC 252 in August 2020. O’Malley currently boasts a 15-1 professional record.
Munhoz, 35, has competed under the banner of the UFC since February 2014, has managed to secure notable organizational triumphs against the likes of Justin Scoggins, Rob Font, Brett Johns, Bryan Caraway, former undisputed bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt, and in his most recent victory, defeated Jimmie Rivera in the pair’s 2021 rematch.
While UFC 276 is slated to take place on July 2. from ‘Sin City’ – an official headlining slot for the event has yet to be determined.
