Report – Tom Aspinall vs. Curtis Blaydes Booked For UFC London Main Event On July 23.

    A heavyweight main event between the surging #6 ranked division contender, Tom Aspinall, and his fellow recent headlining standout, the #4 rated challenger, Curtis Blaydes is set to take main event honors on July 23. at UFC London – as the organization returns to The O2 Arena in the country’s capital.

    Headlining UFC London back in March, Tom Aspinall, a staple of Team Kaobon managed to stop common opponent, Alexander Volkov with a one-sided opening round submission – locking up a taut, early straight armbar victory.

    For Blaydes, the Illinois wrestling ace has turned in a pair of victories since his massive knockout loss to Derrick Lewis last year – handing Philadelphia striker, Chris Daukaus a knockout defeat of his own back in March in the main event of UFC Fight Night Columbus. Blaydes’ second round swarm earned him a Performance of the Night honor to boot. Ariel Helwani was first to report the news of Tom Aspinall’s second straight UFC London headliner against Curtis Blaydes.

    Aspinall, who formally plyed his trade under the Graham Boylan-led Cage Warriors banner, made his UFC bow in July 2020 on ‘Fight Island’ – stopping Jake Collier.

    Returning to Abu Dhabi, UAE later that year, Aspinall would then stop France native, Alan Baudot – before making relatively light work of both former heavyweight champion, Andrei Arlovski, and the well-touted, Sergey Spivak before his March win over Volkov.

    Also recording a dominant win over Moscow striker, Volkov over the course of a five round main event bracket – prior to Blaydes’ March mauling of Daukaus, the Elevation Fight Team trainee and Eliot Marshall student turned in a unanimous decision win over Suriname kickboxer, Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 265 in September.

    Blaydes, a former Juco national wrestling champion also holds UFC victories against the likes of Alistair Overeem, Mark Hunt, Alexey Oleynik, and Junior dos Santos to name a few. Blaydes’ summer showdown with Aspinall will come as his sixth headliner under the UFC’s scrutiny.
