Ahead of UFC 274 next month, reigning lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira claims that suggestions from former interim titleholder and the #1 ranked contender, Justin Gaethje that he can knock him out or out-wrestle him are just “bullsh*t”.

Oliveira, who headlines the Phoenix, Arizona card in his attempt to land the second successful lightweight title defense of his almost year-long reign, turned in a spectacular first outing at champion last December.

Headlining UFC 269 against common-foe and another former interim gold holder, Dustin Poirier, Oliveira extended his streak as the most prolific submission artist in the history of the organization with an eventual third round standing rear-naked choke win over the Lafayette challenger.

The victory marked Oliveira’s first as lightweight champion, having clinched the vacant title back in May of last year in the main event of UFC 262 – stopping with a quickfire second round knockout win over another common-opponent, Michael Chandler.

Justin Gaethje recently suggested Charles Oliveira will still quit deep into a fight

Following Oliveira’s victory over Poirier and his own against Chandler, Gaethje claimed that when the going gets tough, he believes Oliveira presents a certain chink in his armor and questioned his ability to fight through adversity.

Taking umbrage with Gaethje’s comments, Oliveira claimed that the Arizona native is presenting a lot of “bullsh*t” statements into the May 7. title outing – as well as inviting him to knock him out if he believes he can.

“Justin Gaethje is coming up with a lot of bullsh*t,” Charles Oliveira said during a recent interview with Olhar da Luta ahead of UFC 274. “I think that’s what he’s trying to do, to win the mind game. But that makes no difference to me. I learned that we have two ears to listen but we also have to let it out….”

“If he (Justin Gaethje) thinks he can beat me in a standing fight, he can try to knock me out,” Charles Oliveira continued. “If he thinks he’s a better wrestler than me, he can take me down too.”

Earning his second shot at undisputed lightweight gold, Gaethje managed to land an impressive unanimous decision win over the aforenoted, Chandler at UFC 268 back in November at Madison Square Garden, in the consensus Fight of the Year.

Oliveira also claimed ahead of his UFC 274 title defense against Gaethje that he is expecting a war against the challenger — something he welcomes wholeheartedly.
