Former undisputed UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo has called for a bantamweight title tilt against undisputed division best, Aljamain Sterling – urging the promotion to book the championship showdown.
Aldo, undefeated in his last three consecutive outings since his vacant bantamweight title challenge loss against former gold holder, Petr Yan – most recently turned in an impressive five round unanimous decision victory against contender, Rob Font in December. The victory eanred the Brazilian the #3 rank in the bantamweight pile.
For Sterling, the Uniondale native successfully unified the bantamweight crowns in the co-main event of UFC 273 last weekend, landing a second career win over common-foe, Yan – besting the Dudinka native over the course of five rounds in a close split decision (48-47, 47-48, 48-47) win.
Following the title unification success, Sterling immediately switched focus to a title defense against former two-time division titleholder, T.J. Dillashaw – who was in attendance at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

However, in the days since his welcome to Dillashaw, Sterling has now distanced himself from a title defense against the Angels Camp veteran – questioning if the former champion deserves a title tilt – leading to a callout from former featherweight kingpin, Aldo.
“@funkmasterMMA (Aljamain Sterling) u said I would be next on merit and I’m here accepting your challenge, @danawhite send me the contract soon before he (Sterling) changes his mind!!” Jose Aldo tweeted.
Leading to a response from champion, Sterling – the long time Serra-Longo MMA trainee urged the above mentioned, White to organize a sit down with him, in order to discuss his next title outing.
“.@danawhite Hey man, when are we having a sit down?” Aljamain Sterling replied to the above twitter from Jose Aldo. “We clearly have a lot to discuss… PS: Go watch the first round again. You (White) are WRONG! @OrenHodak @vaynersports”
Before his December success against Font in the main event of UFC Vegas 44, Aldo had successfully landed a dominant unanimous decision win over compatriot, Pedro Munhoz – as well as stopping the siege of Marlon Vera in December 2020.
