Former two-time UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones is priming himself for an Octagon return by the late summer, however, has revealed that the promotion has yet to approach him with a bout agreement in a bid to end a period of over two years of inactivity.

Jones, a former two-time undisputed light heavyweight champion under the UFC’s banner, has yet to feature inside the Octagon since February 2020 where he narrowly escaped Houston, Texas with his title in tow off the back of a close unanimous decision win over Dominick Reyes at UFC 247.

Rochester native, Jon Jones would then subsequently vacate his light heavyweight title in August of that year, announcing his plans to make good on a long-awaited move to the promotion’s heavyweight division.

Following current division kingpin, Francis Ngannou’s title coronation in March of last year, the Batie native was linked with a first title defense against Jones, however, public negotiation fallouts with the promotion with the latter as well as a plan to slowly embark on a heavyweight regime saw the pairing fall to the wayside.

In the time since, Ngannou has successfully unified the heavyweight titles against former interim titleholder, Ciryl Gane – but recently underwent a surgical procedure to address an ACL tear and is expected to be sidelined for a period of nine months.

As a result, talk of the insertion of another interim title to the division has been rife – with many suggesting an interim pairing of former two-time division best, Stipe Miocic, and the above mentioned, Jones.

However, as of this week, Jones – who has plans to attain peak heavyweight level by the summer, has revealed he has yet to be approached by the UFC in regards to a bout agreement.

“Nope,” Jon Jones replied on his official Twitter when asked if the UFC had offered him a fight yet. “But my plan is to be in peak condition come June/July.”

UFC president, Dana White had previously confirmed that upon his landing in the heavyweight division, Jon Jones would challenge for a title belt off the bat – however, the former titleholder has yet to make good on his heavyweight debut.
