Extending his undefeated run to seven straight fights over the weekend at UFC Columbus, surging bantamweight striker, Chris Gutierrez is eager to land a summer Octagon return, remaining coy on a potential opponent, but admitted that stylistic battles against the likes of Sean O’Malley, or former lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar excite him.

Chris Gutierrez, who featured on the preliminary card of UFC Columbus in Ohio, turned in a massive third round finish over the highly-touted Mongolia native, Danaa Batgerel – stopping him with a spinning back fist in the third round. The victory landed Gutierrez his third straight victory, and also, netted him a Performance of the Night bonus to boot.

The 28-year-old, who has competed eight separate times in the UFC since his 2018 move to the organization, boasts a hugely-impressive 6-1-1 promotional record, with a debut submission defeat against Raoni Barcelos coming as his sole promotional blemish.

In the time since, Chris Gutierrez fought to a unanimous decision draw against recent feature, Cody Durden, but has landed six victories over Ryan MacDonald, Geraldo de Freitas, Vince Morales, Andre Ewell, Felipe Corales, and on Saturday – added Batgerel to that list of triumphs.

“Maybe in the like the May, June area, I’d like to get back,” Chris Gutierrez told Current MMA reporter, James Lynch. “I’m looking around that timeframe – in about three or four months.”

“You know, they (assembled media) asked me in the interviews after the fight (against Batgerel) who would I like. And I told them, either Frankie (Edgar) or Sean O’Malley. I think they would be good fights stylistically, and it would be fun for the crowd as well.”

Earlier this month, the surging Montana native, O’Malley called for a return to the Octagon in May at UFC 274 – suggesting a pairing against Brazilian contender, Pedro Munhoz, however, a bout has yet to come to fruition.

O’Malley was also the subject of a recent callout from undefeated flyweight prospect, Muhammad Mokaev – who claimed he would make the bantamweight division leap and finish O’Malley inside the opening round off the back of a successful UFC London debut against the aforenoted, Durden.
