A light heavyweight pairing between former division champion, Jan Blachowicz, and the surging contender, Aleksandar Rakic is slated to take main event honors at UFC Vegas 54 on May 14. – from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Initially scheduled to headline tonight’s UFC Columbus card at the Nationwide Arena in Ohio, the bout between former champion, Jan Blachowicz, and Rakic was eventually shelved after the former suffered a neck and spinal injury ahead of the event.
In his most recent outing, Poland-born veteran, Jan Blachowicz headlined UFC 267 back in October on ‘Fight Island’ in Abu Dhabi, UAE – suffering a light heavyweight championship loss against now-champion, Glover Teixeira courtesy of a second round rear-naked choke.
For Rakic, the Austria-born contender is currently in the midst of a two-fight winning run – most recently besting former title challenger and recent headliner, Thiago Santos at UFC 259 in a largely uneventful matchup. Ariel Helwani was first to report the rescheduled bout between Blachowicz and Rakic.
Scooping the undisputed light heavyweight title back in September 2021 at UFC 253, Blachowicz clinched the vacant title with a one-sided eventual second round knockout win over multiple-time title challenger, Dominick Reyes.
In his sole successful title defense, Blachowicz, headlined UFC 259 against current middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya – handing the Nigerian-Kiwi a unanimous decision defeat and his first mixed martial arts loss.

14-2 as a professional and boasting a 6-1 promotional record, Rakic’s sole professional loss came in the form of a split decision defeat against one-time title challenger, Volkan Oezdemir back in December 2019.
Along with his victories against the aforenoted Santos, Rakic also knocked back former title chaser, Anthony Smith, Jimi Manuwa, Devin Clark, Justin Ladet, and Francismar Barroso. Rakic has managed to secure an impressive nine career knockout wins.
