Sergio Pettis vs. Raufeon Stots, Kyoji Horiguchi vs. Patchy Mix Added To Bellator 279

    Bellator MMA’s return to Hawaii is bringing with it a pair of events – with the latter Bellator 270 card on April 23. particularly stacked.

    Slated to take place on April 23. from the Neal S. Blaisdell Center, the Bellator MMA bantamweight World Grand Prix will kick-off at the event, with reigning division best, Sergio Pettis drawing the surging #3 ranked, contender, Raufeon Stots in the opening round.

    Former undisputed champion, Kyoji Horiguchi also returns at the event – himself tangling with the streaking #2 rated, Patchy Mix on the same card. The addition of Mix x Stots, and Horiguchi x Mix – comes along with an undisputed featherweight championship rematch between current titleholder, Cris Cyborg, and the #1 ranked contender, New South Wales veteran, Arlene BlencoweMMA Junkie was first to confirm the bantamweight World Grand Prix bouts.

    Defending the undisputed bantamweight title with a massive, rallying, Knockout of the Year candidate against the aforenoted, Horiguchi back in December, Pettis retained the crown with a fourth round finish – his fourth consecutive victory under the Bellator banner.

    The former UFC flyweight contender added Horiguchi to an impressive winning run under the Scott Coker-led banner, following eye-catching wins against former champion Juan Archuleta, Ricky Bandejas, and Alfred Khashakyan.

    For Stots, the streaking Texas-born wrestler has managed to scoop wins in his first five consecutive outings under the Bellator banner.

    Most recently, the 33-year-old grappling sensation knocked back the highly-touted, Magomed Magomedov with a unanimous decision victory at Bellator 264 in August of last year.

    Gunma native, Horiguchi returned to the Bellator banner back in December for his title defense against Pettis, suffering his first defeat under the promotion’s scrutiny since his move to the organization back in June 2019.

    Competing under the Rizin FF banner in tandem with Bellator, Horiguchi scooped titles in both organization – defeating Darion Caldwell with a unanimous decision in June 2019 to land the latter promotion’s crown.

    15-1 as a professional, Xtreme Couture trainee, Mix’s sole professional loss came against the above mentioned former champion, Archuleta back in a vacant bantamweight title fight at Bellator 246.

    In two wins since, Mix has defeated Albert Morales, and in November of last year at Bellator Dublin – stopped fellow tournament feature, James Gallagher with a third round guillotine choke. Mix had tipped the bantamweight scales at 137.8lbs prior to the event co-headliner.
