Junior dos Santos Pens Deal With Eagle FC, Makes May Debut Against Yorgan de Castro

    Former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos has officially penned a multi-fight contract with Khabib Nurmagomedov-led Eagle FC, and is set to make his promotional debut on May 20. in a heavyweight matchup against fellow UFC alum, Yorgan de Castro.

    dos Santos, 38, last competed professionally back in December 2020 at UFC 256, suffering his fourth consecutive knockout loss in a one-sided defeat to former interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane.

    For de Castro, the Cape Verde-born heavyweight made his Eagle FC debut in January of this year, landing a submission win against Shaun Asher in his promotional debut. Khabib Nurmagomedov confirmed the signing of dos Santos and his pairing with de Castro to ESPN MMA.

    Santa Catarina veteran, dos Santos was recently booked to feature at a Triller promoted event against former heavyweight boxing champion, Kubrat Pulev, however, the event was eventually shelved ahead of a February date.

    21-9 as a professional, prior to his loss to Gane, dos Santos dropped a trio of knockout losses to Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Curtis Blaydes, and current undisputed heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou.

    A former undisputed heavyweight champion, dos Santos infamously stopped former two-time heavyweight titleholder, Cain Velasquez with an opening minute knockout in November 2011 – before two subsequent, one-sided losses to the Salinas native.

    Throughout his storied professional career, dos Santos, a staple of American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida – managed notable victories over the likes of Fabricio Werdum, Stefan Struve, Mirko Cro Cop, Gabriel Gonzaga, Roy Nelson, Shane Carwin, Frank Mir, Mark Hunt, Stipe Miocic, Tai Tuivasa, and in his most recent win – stopped Derrick Lewis in March 2019.

    Fall River, Massachusetts based UFC veteran, de Castro competed under the Dana White-led banner on four separate occasions – lodging a 1-3 record following a winning appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series.

    Before a trio of losses to Jarjis Danho, Carlos Felipe, and Greg Hardy – de Castro landed his fifth career knockout with a stunning one-punch win over Justin Tafa.
