Report – Cynthia Calvillo vs. Brianna Fortino Targeted For UFC on ESPN+ 69 On June 4.

    #10 ranked UFC flyweight contender, Cynthia Calvillo is currently targeting a strawweight division return – with a matchup against the returning, Brianna Fortino (née Van Buren) currently in the works for UFC on ESPN+ 69 on June 4. At the time of publication, the promotion has yet to determine a location, or venue for the event.

    Attempting to snap a three-fight losing skid, Calvillo, who currently resides at #10 in the official flyweight rankings, most recently failed to make the third round of her UFC Vegas 42 bout against Andrea Lee back in November, due to a second round corner stoppage.

    For Fortino, the former Invicta FC strawweight champion currently sits at #14 in the official strawweight pile, and would make her first Octagon outing since a June 2020 loss to Tecia Torres in a return on May 21. against Calvillo. News of the targeted pairing was initially reported by Cageside Press reporter, Alex Behunin.

    Headlining UFC Vegas 2 back in June 2020 against one-time title challenger, Jessica Eye in her flyweight division return – Calvillo initially got off to a winning start at 125lbs with a unanimous decision win.

    However, in three outings at the limit since, the San Jose native, who recently set up camp at American Kickboxing Academy, has suffered losses to former title challenger, Katlyn Chookagian, former strawweight champion, Jessica Andrade, and the aforenoted, Lee.

    Fortino, a native of Gilroy, California – landed in the UFC boasting a 6-2 record – having stopped Kailan Curran with a rear-naked choke to win the Invicta FC strawweight tournament and clinch the Shannon Knapp-led promotion’s title.

    In her Octagon debut, Fortino bested Livia Renata Souza, before then dropping her June 2020 loss to perennial strawweight contender, Torres. 7-3 as a professional, Fortino has landed two knockout wins to go with a further two submission victories.

    At the time of publication, an official headliner for the June 4. Fight Night billed event has yet to be determined by the promotion.
