UFC president, Dana White, has confirmed the promotion plans to rescheduled a failed pairing of the newly minted #3 ranked lightweight contender, Islam Makhachev, and the surging Beneil Dariush next, following a failed matchup of the two last weekend at UFC Vegas 49.

Scheduled to headline the UFC Apex facility event, just 10 days out, Dariush, a staple of Kings MMA, suffered a fractured fibula ruling him from his title-eliminator against Makhachev.

Remaining on the Fight Night billed event, Makhachkala native, Makhachev stopped short notice replacement, Bobby Green with a one-sided first round finish after landed a slew of ground strikes in their impromptu 160lbs catchweight main event clash.

Following the bout, Makhachev, who had secured his tenth straight victory, explained his willingness to rebook a pairing against Iranian-born contender, Dariush next, as well as calling for a lightweight title fight against either champion, Charles Oliveira, or incoming title challenger, Justin Gaethje in October.

However, this weekend’s UFC 272 co-headlining slot required a short-notice replacement, as Rafael Fiziev was forced from his matchup with former lightweight titleholder, Rafael dos Anjos. And despite the promotion’s eventual booking of dos Anjos against his compatriot, Renato Moicano, Makhachev briefly offered to meet dos Anjos at the welterweight limit.

In turn, the aforenoted, White has now claimed that Makhachev actually turned down Saturday’s co-main event bout with dos Anjos, and explained how the organization would book him against Dariush next once the latter returns from his injury.

“Since he (Islam Makhachev) turned down this fight (against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 272) we’re gonna remake the (Beneil) Dariush fight,” Dana White told Barstool Sports during a recent interview. “We’ll get that fight going. (I’m) dying to see that fight. And then he (Islam Makhachev) gets through Dariush, very interesting.”

For Dariush, a three-time World No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu champion, has embarked on a seven-fight winning run since November 2018, most recently landing a one-sided unanimous decision win over former interim lightweight titleholder, Tony Ferguson in the co-main event of UFC 262 back in June of last year.
