A flyweight showdown between one-time division title challenger, the #4 ranked contender, Jennifer Maia, and the surging #13 rated challenger, Manon Fiorot has been added to a UFC Columbus card on March 26. from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
19-8-1 as a professional, Maia a former Invicta FC flyweight champion, suffered defeat in her most recent outing, in the form of a unanimous decision loss to Katlyn Chookagian at UFC Vegas 46 in January.
Nice, France native, Fiorot boasts an 8-1 professional record, and recorded her third UFC victory back in October at UFC Vegas 40 – besting Mayra Bueno Silva with a unanimous decision victory. News of Maia’s pairing with Fiorot was first reported by MMA Junkie reporters, Farah Hannoun, and Nolan King.
An eight-fight UFC alum, Brazilian contender, Maia has so far amassed an even 4-4 record since her promotional debut back in July 2018.
The 33-year-old Curitiba native has faltered against Liz Carmouche, and Chookagian twice during her UFC tenure, as well as suffering an eventual unanimous decision blemish against champion, Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 255 in November 2020.
32-year-old striker, Fiorot, was booked to feature on this weekend’s UFC 272 card against would-be common-foe, Eye, however, the Ohio native was forced from the bout due to an undisclosed injury.
As a result, Fiorot, who suffered a professional debut loss to recent Bellator 275 co-headliner, Leah McCourt in her sole outing under the Cage Warriors banner, draws Maia on short notice later this month.
Making big waves during her three-fight tenure already, prior to her win over Silva last October, Fiorot stopped the pair of Victoria Leonardo, and then Tabatha Ricci with strikes in a splendid, breakout year for the French finisher.
UFC Columbus is set to take place on March 26. from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio – with an impromptu headliner between heavyweight contenders, Curtis Blaydes, and Chris Daukaus set to take main event honors.
