Defending UFC light heavyweight champion, Glover Teixeira has seen the first attempted defense of his crown postponed from its original UFC 274 landing pad on May 7.
Per an initial report from Combate reporter, Evy Rodrigues, Teixeira is now slated to clash with the surging, Jiri Prochazka a month later at UFC 275, with an official date, location, or venue for the promotion’s pay-per-view event yet to be determined by the organization.
At the time of publication, a reason for the postponing and reshuffling of Teixeira x Prochazka is undisclosed, with the UFC 274 showcase on May 7. featuring an undisputed lightweight title bout between champion, Charles Oliveira, and challenger, Justin Gaethje.
Clinching the undisputed 205lbs throne at the second time of trying, Teixeira headlined UFC 267 back in October on ‘Fight Island’ in Abu Dhabi, UAE – turning in a stunning second round submission victory over Jan Blachowicz in an upset win for the Minas Gerais veteran.
For Prochazka, the former Rizin FF light heavyweight kingpin has made massive waves in the organization since his arrival in the UFC back in July 2020.
Debuting against one-time title challenger, Volkan Oezdemir, Czech Republic native, Prochazka stopped the Swiss striker with a massive second round knockout.
Headlining in May of last year at UFC Vegas 25 – landing a Knockout of the Year contender with a spinning elbow knockout victory against two-time title chaser, Dominick Reyes. The win saw Prochazka land at #2 in the official light heavyweight pile as a result.
28-3 as a professional, Prochazka has managed to secure a jaw-dropping 25 separate knockout wins, and is currently riding a run of 12 straight wins – undefeated since 2015.
Brazilian stalwart, Teixeira is enjoying a career purple-patch most definitely, embarking on a six-fight winning run including his submission success against Blachowicz – in a streak that includes stoppage triumphs against both Anthony Smith, and Thiago Santos.
