Bobby Green has a very straightforward plan for this weekend’s short notice UFC Vegas 49 main event against Islam Makhachev: continually landing strikes on the Dagestan native’s chin until he’s separated from consciousness.
Green, who headlines for the first time in his nine-year promotional tenure, makes the walk for the second time this month – following a dominant unanimous judging win against Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 271.
The 35-year-old is booked to meet Makhachev in a short notice 160lbs catchweight main event, after originally scheduled headliner, the #3 rated Beneil Dariush suffered a fractured fibula ahead of his title-eliminator against Makhachev.
Green added Haqparast to a winning run which saw him land a UFC 268 knockout win over fellow lightweight stalwart, Al Iaquinta in November at Madison Square Garden.
Receiving major plaudits for accepting the bout against Makhachev on just 10 days notice, Green, who faces the steaking nine-fight run of the American Kickboxing Academy staple, has been tipped by some, including former UFC middleweight champion, Michael Bisping to upset the applecart and halt the run of Makhachev this weekend.
Tasked with snapping the winning spree of the Dagestan native, Green has criticized the rest of available lightweights for turning down a short-notice matchup with Makhachev, welcomed his wrestling ability, touting his own, and insisting that he simply plans on striking him until he wilts.
“I wanna show people, I’m not crazy, I’m f*cking nuts,” Bobby Green said on The MMA Hour. “Okay? I’m f*cking nuts. I’ll show all you p*ssy motherf*ckers how imma do this sh*t. I’m gonna bring some real G sh*t, get in there, and do this sh*t with the highest guy (Islam Makhachev) in our f*cking division.”
“I’m gonna walk in there like a gangster, and punch this guy right in his f*cking face,” Bobby Green continued. “Imma keep hitting him in his face, until he goes down. And all he’s gonna do is try and wrestle, and that’s cool. He’s gonna wrestle, he’s gonna wrestle. Cool, wrestle, wrestle, wrestle – I can wrestle too, that’s fine. But at the end of the day, I just wanna show my peers, or my colleagues, or my opponents, this is how you the f*ck you do this sh*t. You don’t sit back here and wait for the f*cking perfect opportunity.”
