Michael Chandler Comments On Future Title Chances, Calls For Rematch With Charles Oliveira

    UFC lightweight contender, Michael Chandler has claimed that fans would gather in their masses to see him challenge reigning division kingpin, Charles Oliveira for the lightweight championship once again.

    Chandler, who has featured three times under the promotion’s banner, most recently opened the main card of UFC 268 against incoming title challenger, Justin Gaethje – suffering a unanimous decision defeat against the Arizona native in the consensus Fight of the Year.

    The loss came as the Missouri veteran’s second consecutively, following a May knockout loss to the aforenoted, Oliveira in a vacant lightweight title fight at UFC 262.

    Debuting in the UFC back in January of last year on ‘Fight Island’, Chandler, a former three-time undisputed Bellator MMA lightweight champion managed to stop upcoming UFC London feature, Dan Hooker with first round strikes in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

    Last week, UFC president, Dana White confirmed that the organization were looking at potentially pairing Chandler against former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson this year.

    Chandler, a staple of Sanford MMA in Deerfield Beach, Florida – claimed that should he work his way back to title contention in 2022, fans and spectators would be interested in him fighting Oliveira for lightweight gold again.

    “I think everyone wants to see a rematch of myself and Charles Oliveira,” Michael Chandler said on a recent appearance on DC & RC. “They definitely want to see a rematch. Chapter 2 of the Fight of the Year against myself against Justin Gaethje. So, I’ve kind of put myself in a unique position where I could be one win away, and I get the nod to go out there and win the title by the end of 2022.”

    While Chandler has plans to crown himself as the lightweight champion by the end of the year, the above mentioned, Oliveira is slated to defend his title for the second time at UFC 274 on May 7. – tackling soon-to-be common opposition, Gaethje.
