Reigning UFC bantamweight champion, Julianna Pena, and featherweight queen, Amanda Nunes are reportedly the front running duo to coach the incoming instalment of The Ultimate Fighter 30 – ahead of a future title rematch between the two.

Per an initial report from Ariel Helwani, Pena and Nunes have been identified as potential coaches for The Ultimate Fighter 30 on the ESPN network, and are the current frontrunners to land the roles.

“Julianna Peña and Amanda Nunes are the front-runners to coach the next season of TUF (The Ultimate Fighter), per sources,” Helwani tweeted.

Initially meeting back in December in the co-main event of UFC 269, Nunes suffered a stunning upset loss to Pena courtesy of a second round rear-naked choke, dropping the undisputed bantamweight crown, and thus, her title as a two-weight champion.

The loss also came as Nunes’ first since 2014, and her first blemish since embarking on a 12-fight winning streak which saw her clinch both undisputed bantamweight and featherweight titles.

In the time since her loss, Nunes has welcomed an immediate title rematch, as has Pena, but the Brazilian recently made headlines when she split from longtime home gym, American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida following her loss to the Washington native.

Prior to UFC 270 last weekend, Pena addressed the prospect of facing Nunes in a championship rematch this year, and ideally suggested a summer return against the Bahia native.

When asked if she would be interested in travelling to Nunes’ native Brazil for a projected May 7. UFC 274 card, Pena flat out dismissed the idea. However, in the time since, it has become apparent that the organization have shelved plans for the event to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – with the showcase now expected to land in the United States.
