UFC bantamweight contender, Said Nurmagomedov has outlined his two ideal next opponents beyond his UFC 270 main card clash with Cory Stamann this weekend – suggesting pairings with contender, Sean O’Malley, and Marlon Vera with a win.

Approaching his fifth Octagon walk this weekend, Nurmagomedov enters his main card bout with Stamann off the back of a quickfire opening minute knockout win over Mark Striegl back in October 2020 on ‘Fight Island’ – returning him to the win column following his first promotional defeat against Brazilian contender, Raoni Barcelos – whom he shares Saturday’s card with.

The 29-year-old had embarked on a two-fight winning run under the UFC’s banner prior to his loss to Barcelos, debuting with a split decision win over promotional alum, Justin Scoggins, before stopping Ricardo Ramos with an impressive spinning back kick at UFC Fight Night Fortaleza in February 2019.

The Dagestan native has seen his activity under the organization’s scrutiny halted throughout his tenure, with a planned September showdown against Welsh contender, Jack Shore shelved due to VISA issues.

However, a victory over the former top-15 contender, Stamman at UFC 270 may propel Nurmagomedov into the rankings himself, and he hopes it further launches him into potential fights with either O’Malley or Vera next.

“After him (Cody Stamann), I will fight (Sean) O’Malley, or I want to call out (Marlon) ‘Chito’ Vera,” Said Nurmagomedov told assembled media during his UFC 270 media availability on media day. “He (Vera) knocked out Frankie Edgar, and I want to pay him back.”

Earlier this week, Stamann spoke with Current MMA where he detailed how he expects Nurmagomedov to engage in a “war of wills” against him on Saturday. And for Nurmageomdov, the Makhachkala native expects Stamann to attempt to utilize his wrestling at UFC 270.

“Cody’s (Stamann” an experienced top-15 opponent,” Said Nurmagomedov said. “He’s got heavy top pressure, and good wrestling.”
