Khamzat Chimaev Offers To Fight Gilbert Burns In Brazil: ‘We’re Going To Choke Him Out’

Streaking UFC welterweight contender, Khamzat ‘Borz’ Chimaev has offered to travel to hostile and enemy territory to score a potential title-eliminator against Gilbert ‘Durinho’ Burns, claiming he would choke the Brazilian out on home soil.

Chimaev, undefeated in his first four Octagon outings, seized the #10 rank in the official welterweight pile back in October, courtesy of a one-sided opening round rear-naked choke win over Li Jingliang in Abu Dhabi, UAE at UFC 267.

The Chechen-born finisher has failed to score a bout since his steamrolling of Jingliang in October, however, has been constantly linked with a showdown against Burns, with prior reports linking the two to an April 9. pairing at UFC 274

However, at the time of publication, that pairing has yet to come to fruition for the expected Jacksonville, Florida event, with the organization also reportedly expected to return to the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for UFC 275 on May 7.

Speaking about the possibility of scoring a return against one-time undisputed title challenger, the #2 ranked Burns, Chimaev insisted he would be interested in fighting the Niteroi native in his home country of Brazil.

“Everybody is talking about me, but nobody wants to fight with me because we kill everybody,” Khamzat Chimaev said on his YouTube channel. “For me, it doesn’t matter. Gilbert Bruns talked about Brazil. I’m more Brazilian than him because my coach is Brazilian. I’m a blue belt under Alan ‘Finfou’ (Nascimento). I know many times my coach smashed (Gilbert Burns), too, on the mats.”

“We are going to choke him (Gilbert Burns) out,” Khamzat Chimaev said. “A ‘Finfou’ blue belt against a black belt. I like this guy, actually. He’s a funny, nice guy. I want to fight with him. But in war, brother, I can;t be nice with somebody. I want to eat everybody. Take my money. Take my belt. I’m so hungry. When I talk about fighters, I’m hungry. I hope I will fight in Brazil, as well. Nice country. Nice people.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

For Burns, the Sanford MMA staple rebounded from a March title challenge loss to reigning welterweight kingpin, Kamaru Usman back in July at UFC 264 – securing a one-sided unanimous decision victory in the co-main against two-time title chaser, Stephen Thompson.

Welcoming a potential fight with Chimaev next, Burns took to his official Twitter account, suggested a five round showdown against AllStars MMA trainee on home soil to boot.

“Make it happen @danawhite I’m all in!” Gilbert Burns tweeted. 5 rounds in (Brazilian flag emoji) (gorilla emoji) vs. (wolf emoji). Let’s grappled! (sic) @KChimaev @ufc.”

Responding to Burns, Chimaev tweeted a slew of 100 emojis as he attempts to earn a quickfire welterweight title siege.
