Giga Chikadze Insists He Would Win 9 Out Of 10 Fights Against Calvin Kattar: ‘I’m Unbreakable’

UFC featherweight challenger, Giga Chikadze suffered his first promotional loss over the weekend at UFC Vegas 46 against the returning, Calvin Kattar. And despite the rather one-sided nature of his unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-44) defeat, he maintains should fight Kattar nine or times, he would emerge with a victory each time.

Headlining the promotion’s first event of 2022, Chikadze, who entered the main event boasting the #8 rank at featherweight, had managed to secure victories in his first seven Octagon walks – most recently stopping fellow striking sensation, Edson Barboza with a one-sided third round knockout in his premier main event slot back in August.

Starting brightly in the opening round, Georgia native, Chikadze landed numerous strikes in the opening minutes, including swift leg kicks, and blitzes with his hands, before a slip from a high-kick attempt allowed Kattar to capitalize and eventually secure a takedown.

Giving up the opening round, Chikadze again held his own in the second round, however, from that frame onwards, the pressure, pace, and constant activity from Kattar on the feet forced Chikadze to backpedal, nullifying his kicking arsenal largely.

Slicing and bloodying Chikadze on occasion in the third, fourth, and fifth round, Massachusetts native, Kattar eventually began to run away with the constant – in quite similar to his massively one-sided unanimous decision loss to former undisputed featherweight champion, Max Holloway – just a year ago on ‘Fight Island’.

Speaking following the bout, Chikadze, who required transportation to hospital as he dealt with a multitude of cuts to his face courtesy of Kattar’s elbows, maintained that he would still beat the New England Cartel time and time again if they met in the future, despite his one-sided loss on Saturday.

“It is what it is,” Giga Chikadze said on a Facebook Live stream. “It was not my day but it’s okay. Sometimes it happens, sh*t. It was a good fight. My opponent (Calvin Kattar) showed up good, I made (a) mistake… I’m gonna recover a little bit, guys. I know you guys are following my journey, and this is a part of the journey. When I signed up for the sport, I knew this was a part (of the sport). I f*cked up last night but it’s all good. It’s a journey. I’m learning from this and next time I’m gonna come back so much stronger. I already feel bad for my future opponents. I’m gonna learn a lot from this one, trust me on that.”

“I feel like if I would fight this guy (Calvin Kattar) 10 times, nine I would win,” Giga Chikadze said. “That would be the one I would lose and that was last night. It is what it is. I made (a) mistakes and I’m paying now with it. It’s all good. Guys, I’m unbreakable. Remember this sh*t, Georgians always unbreakable. This is how we fight, until the f*cking end.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

For Kattar, the Meuthen native rebounds to the winner’s enclosure following his damaging five round loss to Hawaii native, Holloway last January. And can now add Chikadze to a UFC run which includes wins over Dan Ige, Jeremy Stephens, Ricardo Lamas, Chris Fishgold, Shane Burgos, and Andre Fili.
