Report – Miesha Tate vs. Lauren Murphy In The Works For UFC 273 On April 9.

    Former UFC bantamweight champion, Miesha ‘Cupcake’ Tate is expected to take her talents to the flyweight division – with a bout against one-time division title challenger, ‘Lucky’ Lauren Murphy currently in the works to land on UFC 273 on April 9. Whilst an official location or venue for the event has yet to be determined by the organization, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York is targeted to host the event.

    Making a surprising retirement u-turn last year, Tate returned to the Octagon following a five-year hiatus back in July at UFC Vegas 31, stopping the retiring, Marion Reneau with a third round ground strikes stoppage. 

    In her most recent outing, Tate headlined UFC Vegas 43 in November, suffering a unanimous decision defeat against Amazonas native, Ketlen Vieira.

    15-5 as a professional, Murphy, a former Invicta FC bantamweight champion, most recently co-headlined UFC 266 in September against reigning flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko – suffering an eventual fourth round knockout loss in a one-sided title outing. MMA Fighting reporter, Damon Martin was first to report the targeted bout. 

    19-8 as a professional, Tate, a former undisputed UFC and Strikeforce bantamweight champion had announced her retirement from professional mixed martial arts back in November 2016 immediately following her UFC 205 unanimous decision loss to Raquel Pennington.

    Clinching the undisputed UFC bantamweight title back in the co-main event of UFC 196 in March 2016, Tate turned in a staggering fifth round rear-naked choke win over then-champion, Holly Holm in a rallying effort.

    Headlining UFC 200 in her first title defense, Tate succumbed to a first round rear-naked choke of her own against former division champion, Amanda Nunes.

    Tate also holds other notable career wins over the likes of Marloes Coenen, Julie Kedzie, Liz Carmouche, Sara McMann, and Jessica Eye.

    Alaska veteran, Murphy had managed to compile an impressive five-fight winning spree prior to her title challenge loss to Krgyszstan native, Shevchenko back in September. 

    The 20-fight professional veteran, Murphy entered the UFC boasting an 8-0 professional record, after winning the undisputed Invicta FC bantamweight championship after Miriam Nakamoto suffered a catastrophic knee injury back in their 2013 clash. 

    Murphy holds UFC wins over Mara Romero Borella, Andrea Lee, Roxanne Modafferi, and Joanne Calderwood to name a few.

    UFC 273 is slated to take place on April 9. – with the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York targeted to host the event. At the time of publication, an official headlining bout has yet to be determined by the promotion.
