A trilogy featherweight title fight between the reigning champion, Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski, and former champion, the #1 ranked contender, Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway is slated to take place on March 5. at UFC 272 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Attempting to score a third career win over Hawaii favorite, Holloway, Volkanovski first successfully clinched the title from the defending champion at UFC 245 in December 2019 – before taking a close decision win over Holloway at UFC 261 in July 2020 on ‘Fight Island’ in his first title defense.
Headlining UFC 266 last September, City Kickboxing mainstay, Volkanovski turned in another unanimous decision victory over common-foe, Brian Ortega to once again successfully defend his featherweight crown.
In the midst of a two-fight winning run since his title loss to Volkanovski, Holloway turned in a stunning unanimous decision victory over Calvin Kattar last January at UFC on ABC 1.
Back in November at UFC Vegas 42, Holloway turned in another eye-catching unanimous judging win over the returning Chihuahua striker, Yair Rodriguez. ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto was first to report the news of the bout as per promotional leader, Dana White.
23-1 as a professional, Volkanovksi has enjoyed a promotional perfect run since his debut back in November 2016 on home soil – scoring 10 consecutive victories.
To go with his wins over Holloway, Volkanovksi has also defeated former featherweight champion, Jose Aldo, as well as multiple-time title challenger, Chad Mendes to name a few.
For Holloway, the former undisputed featherweight champion attempts to begin his second reign as champion, having previously defended his crown against common-foe, Aldo and Ortega, and in his final successful title defense, Holloway defeated former lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar at UFC 240.
UFC 272 is slated to take place on March 5. from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
