Off the back of UFC 269 on Saturday, main card opener, Sean O’Malley has once more cracked the bantamweight top-15 – landing at #13 in the official pile following a dominant first round knockout win over Raulian Paiva in the new promotional rankings update.
For event headliner, Charles Oliveira, the Brazilian finishing ace has also cracked the top-5 of the official men’s pound-for-pound rankings, sitting at #5 off the back of his third round standing rear-naked choke win over former interim titleholder, Dustin Poirier.
With Poirier’s loss, the challenger slips from his #1 perch at lightweight, downt to #2 – with former interim gold holder, Justin Gaethje replacing him at the #1 spot.
Narrowly besting the always-game, Dan Ige in the preliminary card featured bout, the returning Josh Emmett managed to leap both Giga Chikadze and Arnold Allen into the #6 rank at featherweight – with the former managing to retain his #9 rank, remaining in the division’s top-10.
We also got a relatively important shuffle in the bantamweight division, with former two-time champion, Dominick Cruz moving to the #7 rank once held by opponent, Pedro Munhoz, following the former’s impressive unanimous decision victory on the preliminary card. Marlon Vera moves to #8 in the rankings following Munhoz’s loss, while Marlon Moraes moves to #9, and former lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar climbs to #11.
In a random shuffle at flyweight, Sumudaejri moves to #12 at 125lbs, replacing Amir Albazi to slips to #13 as a result.
The top-3 of the bantamweight division also received a major shuffle courtesy of Julianna Pena’s stunning submission upset win over champion, Amanda Nunes. The Washington native scoops the crown, while Nunes slips to #1, Holly Holm slides to #2, while Sinaloa striker, Irene Aldana completes the top-3. TUF finalist, Pannie Kianzad also improves to #12 in place of the now-#13 ranked, Karol Rosa who slips in a random shuffle.
At flyweight, another random shuffle sees one-time title challenger, Jessica Eye slide to #10, while Cynthia Calvillo lands at #9 in her place.
Off the back of her title loss to Pena, Nunes has also been knocked from her pound-for-pound # perch, with flyweight champion, two-time foe, Valentina Shevchenko promoted to #1 in her place, while strawweight best, Rose Namajunas moves to #2 as Nunes falls to #3. Newly minted bantamweight best, Pena, also make a major leap, seven slots to the #4 rank in the pound-for-pound pile.
