Former interim UFC lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson has claimed that Dominance MMA leader, prominent mixed martial arts manager, Ali Abdelaziz has “instigated” a grappling match between himself and arch-rival, the now-retired former undisputed titleholder, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Ferguson, who currently sits at #7 in the official lightweight rankings, is in the midst of a three-fight losing run, the last of which came in May of this year in a unanimous decision defeat against the streaking #3 rated contender, Beneil Dariush.

The former interim titleholder had previously suffered a December unanimous judging loss to current lightweight kingpin, Charles Oliveira, which came off the back of a division-tying, 12-fight undefeated run snapping loss to fellow former interim gold holder, Justin Gaethje in May of last year.

Ferguson, who headlined UFC 249 in May of the previous annum, was infamously scheduled to meet with the aforenoted, Khabib for the fifth time in their respective careers, until the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic forced travel restrictions in the latter’s native Russia — forcing the shelving of arguably the most anticipated bout in mixed martial arts history for a fifth separate occasion.

Failing to ever draw Khabib inside the Octagon, Ferguson has continually clamoured for a grudge match with the undefeated Dagestan native, even since the former champion’s retirement from the sport back in October of last year.

However, according to Ferguson who posted on his official Twitter account this week, the aforenoted Abdelaziz has apparently “instigated” a grappling matchup between him and his client, Khabib.

Gettin’ closer to making Khabieber (Khabib Nurmagomedov) fold,” Ferguson tweeted. “His baldy misguiding muse of a mgr (manager) instigated a grappling match against ol’ fathead. Sure, he’d bail on the scale after having his 2nd serving again. Can’t make weight and can’t fight for sh*t. Fax, it’s tiramisu Tuesday MF’ as -CSO-.

In his time away from the sport of professional mixed martial arts, Sambo practitioner, Khabib has shown no interest in a potential return, despite claims that UFC president, Dana White, and promotion officials have tirelessly attempted to entice him to snap his retirement.

As far as his UFC career is concerned, however, Ferguson has been linked with an eventual welterweight division return for the first time since 2011, and has even called for a matchup against Nate Diaz. The Oxnard native has also been linked to an eventual pairing with former two-weight gold holder, Conor McGregor in the Dubliner’s return to the Octagon next year.
