Henry Cejudo Echoes Calls For Clash With ‘Ugly Potato’ Petr Yan In Russia

Former two-weight UFC champion, Henry ‘The Messenger’ Cejudo has echoed prior calls for a matchup with recently minted interim bantamweight champion and former undisputed champion Petr ‘No Mercy’ Yan, claiming the Dudinka native looks like an “ugly potato“.

Cejudo, a former undisputed bantamweight and flyweight champion, retired from professional mixed martial arts back in May of last year following a successful bantamweight title defense against former two-time champion, Dominick Cruz.

In his time away from the sport, however, the Olympic gold medalist has been linked to a return to the Octagon continuously, with pairings against the likes of the aforenoted, Yan, bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling, and even featherweight kingpin, Alexander Volkanovski all floated by Cejudo.

Following Yan’s title loss to Sterling back in March due to disqualification, Cejudo set sights on both.

I would personally like to line up both Petr Yan and Aljamain Curling-Sterling-Silver [Aljamain Sterling] at the same time,” Cejudo said. “You guys stay tuned, ‘Triple C’ is coming back! What’s up?

Once again, however, off the back of Yan’s interim title coronation at UFC 267 last weekend in a dominant unanimous decision victory over Cory Sandhagen, Cejudo has called for a bout with the Russian — in the latter’s home country to boot.

For ‘Triple C’, it’s all about the money,” Cejudo told The Schmo. “There’s probably some rich billionaire out of Russia who probably wants to see me get beat up in Russia. I say we make it happen — as a matter of fact, I had a great conversation with Khabib [Nurmagomedov] and I’m thinking about posting it on social media today.

“I’m gonna take that dude [Petr Yan] into deep waters and I’m gonna take him out,” Cejudo explained. “But I wanna get paid for it — I wanna get compensated. I love gold and I love money.

Whilst Cejudo once again teases a potential Octagon return, Yan is now widely expected to rematch Sterling in a bantamweight title unification bout before the close of the opening quarter of next year — with Sterling nursing his recovery from recent neck surgery to address a lingering issue.
