Michael Chandler on Dan Hooker: “It’s not a fight that favors me in a lot of ways”.

After signing with the UFC a few months ago, former Bellator Champion, Michael Chandler, is on the cusp of making his UFC debut. He faces Lightweight contender, Dan Hooker at UFC 257 this weekend.

In an interview with BT Sport, Michael Chandler previewed his upcoming promotional debut, and discussed what ‘The Hangman’ brings to the table as a first opponent.

“Talk to me a little bit about Dan Hooker.” Nick Peet of BT Sport asked Michael Chandler. “He’s not necessarily the guy you wanted, but he’s the guy you got and the guy can fight.”

“He can definitely fight.” Chandler responded. “Just a tough guy, hard nosed guy, long rangey guy. Physical attributes, mental attributes to be a champion in this sport. It’s by no means a fight that favors me in a lot of different ways. He’s poses a lot of different problems in the cage.”

“He said yes when a lot of guys said no. He’s stepping up, he’s taking a big risk fighting me. But to him, to a champion, to a guy who lives it, who lives the life of a champion, this to him is just another day at the office. As it is for me.”

“I may be new to the UFC, but I’m not new to this sport. I’ve been fighting for a long time. I’ve seen taller guys, I’ve seen guys who have a bunch of different attributes, I’ve seen guys who are just as tough as him. At this level, we’re all tough. I came into the UFC wanting a top guy, wanting to show the world where I stack up in this Lightweight division and I think Saturday night we’re going to have that answer.”

Hooker is coming off a fight of the night decision loss to Dustin Poirier. Poirier himself will of course be facing Conor McGregor in the main event. Waiting in the wings is Charles Oliveira, who is also hoping to land a fight with ‘The Eagle’, if he is to return.
