Nate Diaz has seen a lot of success in the UFC’s lightweight division over the years. However, more recently, he has fought in the Welterweight division, in his most known fights against Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal.
Diaz has not fought since November 2019, where he lost to Masvidal, due to doctor stoppage. Since then, a rematch has been rumored, but it now looks to be put to bed. In an interview with MacLife, White confirmed that Diaz is returning to Lightweight, and the plan for Masvidal is to face Colby Covington.
When asked by MacLife if he could make Tony Ferguson v Nate Diaz happen, Dana White responded by announcing his plans for Nate Diaz.
“We’re working on a Nate Diaz fight, right now and it is not Tony [Ferguson].” White told MacLife. “But, if we get it done, I think you’re going to like it.”
“Welterweight or Lightweight?” MacLife asked.
“Lightweight.” White responded.
“He’s returning back to 155?” Oscar Willis asked.
“55, yeah…” White said. “It would put him in a really good position, if he won the fight. And the guy who he could potentially be fighting, it’s a great fight for him too.”
Dana White also confirmed to MacLife that the potential opponent was not also a Welterweight who was returning to Lightweight, so this rules out a few options.
