Khamzat Chimaev is one of the fastest rising fighters in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. He burst onto the scene back in July when he made his UFC debut. Since then, has accumulated a record of 3-0 in the UFC and 9-0 as a professional. Most impressively, he has done so in dominant fashion, with his last fight lasting just 17 seconds.
Up next, Chimaev is taking a step up in competition, to face the #3 ranked Welterweight in the UFC, Leon Edwards. Edwards himself is on an eight fight win streak and on the cusp of being the next Englishman to earn a UFC title shot. But Chimaev’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, believes Edwards won’t last 2 rounds.
Khamzat Chimaev retweeted the statement, with his previous tweet also stating that he will “smash everybody”. He then tweeted Ali to say he will “smash” Conor McGregor for him too.
Don’t worry big brother I’m going to smash this chicken for you 👊🏽 https://t.co/YyEJfwUMmm— Khamzat Chimaev (@KChimaev) December 26, 2020
The odds are currently in Chimaev’s favor, standing as roughly a -150 favorite for the bout outright against Edwards. Leon Edwards has never been finished in his career, only losing decisions, with his last loss coming from the current Welterweight Champion, Kamaru Usman. The two are scheduled for five rounds on January 20th, when one of their win streaks will come to an end.
- Usman on breaking Covington’s jaw being “probably” one of the favorite moments in his career.
- Dana White unsure on Nick Diaz’ future: “Fighting is a young man’s game.”
- Garbrandt questions Dillashaw’s abilities without “having a needle shoved up his ass.”
- Dana White: “Imagine Chandler and Gaethje… that’d be a fun fight.”
