A fighter touted by many, including Khabib Nurmagomedov, to become a future UFC Lightweight Champion. Islam Makhackev appears to have the skills, but can’t seem to put together a consistent run of fights.
He has now not fought in over a year, and reportedly has troubles finding opponents willing to face him. At UFC 254, he was set to face former UFC Lightweight Champion, Rafael Dos Anjos. Unfortunately, RDA pulled out due to Covid 19, and it looked like Islam’s bad luck for having an opponent continued.
The UFC rebooked the fight for November 14th, and even set the two to headline. This was great news for Islam’s fans, and a great opportunity to catapult himself into title contention.
However, just less than one week out from the fight, news has broke that Makhachev has been forced out of the bout with an undisclosed injury. The news first came from ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto.
Hopefully the UFC can find a replacement, but with just a few days to go, it could be a tough task.
