Earlier in the week, Diego Sanchez went on a Twitter rampage. Sanchez tweeted roughly 20 times in the space of an hour, calling out many UFC fighters such as Conor McGregor, Donald Cerrone and Demian Maia.
Although it didn’t seem like the tweets would garner any interest from his potential opponents, he has now received a response from Demian Maia, who wants to do it.
A couple of month ago, the UFC double booked Khamzat Chimaev to face Gerald Meerschaert and Damian Maia. However, the fight never came to fruition after Chimaev knocked his first opponent out in 17 seconds. Chimaev’s manager hinted that Maia claimed to be too old to fight him.
I want to give everyone an update about @KChimaev next fight the ufc is working very hard to get an opponent. One opponent said called in sick, another one changed his citizenship so he could not be allowed to the US without visa. And the 3rd guy said he was too old. 😂— Ali Abdelaziz (@AliAbdelaziz00) October 7, 2020
In one of Diego Sanchez’ tweets, he alluded to preferring a ‘legends’ fight. Which is typically where two older fighters face each other, rather than a young up and comer.
If Ali Abdelaziz’ tweets are to be believed, Maia could be thinking along the same lines, which could be why he is open to Diego’s suggestion.
Time will tell whether the UFC puts this fight together.
