The UFC recently announced that Israel Adesanya would move up a weight division to fight for the 205lbs title, against Jan Blachowicz.

This Saturday, Light Heavyweight contenders Glover Teixeira and Thiago Santos face off for what could have been a number one contender fight. The news of Adesanya moving up for the belt was something spoken about by both fighters. With Santos describing it as frustrating, and Glover offering him a warning.

“He’s good and would get to the top, for sure. He’s good as hell, good athlete, good fighter, super intelligent, and for sure would get to the top. But the weight, everything counts. I know that because I train with heavyweights, and it’s hard. The fatigue, the pressure is different.”

Thiago Santos believes that an impressive win over Glover Teixeira this weekend could see him leapfrog Adesanya for a title shot, as a contract between the two Champions is not yet finalised.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens this weekend, and how (if at all) it effects Adesanya’s chances of becoming a double champ.
